Morning light filled the covered path beside River Street.

Lena walked beside her father toward the lively market. She carried coins and hoped to buy a bright kite. Many stalls formed neat rows across the stone square. They stopped near a kiosk that sold paper kites. A queue curved around the kiosk, slow and noisy. Lena raised her coins, but moving feet pressed her back. Sudden music burst from a radio on a fruit cart. The cart rolled forward and bumped the kite poles.

Several poles tipped, and bright strings tangled overhead. One loose kite lifted, drifted, then landed near Lena's shoes. People laughed and stepped aside to clear the path. New options appeared when another vendor opened space beside baskets. Lena walked over, holding the loose kite carefully. The vendor checked the kite and nodded at her father. He offered a simple trade for the fallen kite. Coins changed hands, and Lena received a sky-blue kite. She gripped the wooden stick and followed her father home.
