Soft morning light filled the small town library.

Lena visited every Tuesday and that routine rarely changed. She held three picture books close against her coat. The club schedule on her phone blinked eight forty. She hoped to return books before the next bell. Inside, a long queue formed near the single desk. Children shifted backpacks, adults tapped shoes. A stack of thin comics teetered beside the line. Lena stepped forward to assist the busy clerk. Her elbow brushed the comics; they slid toward the floor. Pages puffed outward, striking a nearby globe. The globe spun, rolled off its stand, and bumped a shelf.

Several bookmarks fluttered free and landed behind the queue. One bright card showed a drawing of Lena's missing pen. She crouched, picked the card, and saw a small cartoon. The cartoon matched her art style from last month. Her eyes widened, and her friend Max now stood there. Max did not linger; he grabbed the rolling globe. Together they placed comics and globe back on the table. The clerk nodded and continued stamping books without delay. The queue shortened, and space opened near the counter. Lena returned her books, received a fresh slip, and smiled. She checked time, waved to Max, and walked toward the door. Outside, the town clock rang as her steps reached the street.
