English 原文
Milo eased the heavy door of the deserted community art room; the hinges complained, then settled. Dust floated across the wide floor, and the air carried a mixture of sawdust and faint turpentine. Paper curls lay everywhere, forming a jumble that reached his knees. Milo, unexpected protagonist of the quiet corridor, had come to recover an old canvas he had stored before the building closed. Light from cracked skylights revealed dried leaves trapped in spider webs, while a forgotten radio case rested beside a stack of warped frames.
Thin fog softened the upper windows. Faint drips echoed from somewhere beyond the supply shelves. A shallow puddle blocked the central aisle, forcing Milo to wade slowly between stools. If he had remembered his boots, he would have avoided the cold water that climbed over his socks. At the far wall, a metal cabinet resisted his first tug; its latch had been painted shut by earlier caretakers. He leaned his weight, the latch snapped, and the door swung open. Inside lay cans of paint whose lids had fused with rust, each surface showing a swirl like a miniature universe caught under metal skin. When he tried lifting the closest can, the handle bent free, scattering flakes onto his sleeves.
Behind the cabinet, a wooden crate waited; however, its lid stuck beneath a warped beam. Milo slid the beam aside, pried the crate, and lifted his canvas. A slim brush rested on the frame, and fresh blue paint clung to its bristles. The rest of the room had slept for years, yet the paint still gleamed as if mixed moments earlier. Water dripped once more, then stilled. Behind him, light rested on the slowly turning brush.
