Morning light rested on flat water near the mountain.

Leo, a young tourist, walked along the narrow wooden pier. He carried a bright fishing rod and a small red box. People called the water a lake, yet a steady current flowed. He sat at the edge and threw the line in.

A sudden tug bent the rod like a thin bow. Leo pulled hard and lifted the tip toward the sky. Instead, the hook caught a sunken branch beneath the pier. The branch snapped free and splashed water across his shoes. The loud splash startled a hawk resting on a nearby post. The bird leapt, wings wide, and struck the dangling branch. Its claws lifted the branch, line, and Leo's small red box. The hawk flew over the rippling river beside the flat lake. Leo blinked, then packed the empty rod. He walked back along the pier, water dripping from socks.
