Soft evening light fell through the high window. Zara planned to create a warm corner for her meal. First, she needed oil stored under an iron lid. The object looked solid and wide. She gripped the rim and pulled hard. The lid refused to lift or slide. Grey dust slowly rose around her worn shoes. A faint smell of old oil hung in the air.

Zara paused and tapped the metal with one knuckle. A hollow ring answered, lighter than she expected. She pressed the center instead of the rim. The surface dipped and turned like a loose cap. Air hissed out, and the lid slid aside with little force. The sudden move tipped a thin board behind the pot. The board struck a stack of small mirrors. Bright reflections skipped across the bench and onto the ceiling. Zara laughed and guided the lamp under the scattered light. Bright dots stayed on the rough wall.
