Dina stands on the stone path.
Morning light is soft.
Grass stays cool and wet.
A worker ant crosses the stone path.
The hat rests against the fence.
Dina reaches toward the brim.
The gap blocks her reach.
Her first try uses a short stick.
The stick is small.
The hat does not move.
She drops the stick on grass.
She knots a loose string.
The loop slips off quickly.
Wing beats stir the air.
A crow lands on the fence.
Its beak taps the brim.
The hat tips and slides.
Dina grips the moving brim.
"Got you," she says.
The grown-up continues a quiet nap.
A crow caws above the fence.
