Milo carried a new pillow along the narrow lane. He wanted to reach his grandmother before sunset. Warm bread scent drifted from an open window. Near the market corner, a loose chicken darted across his shoes. Milo stopped fast; the basket swung forward and tipped. The pillow bounced once, rolled, and slid into a shallow puddle. Water splashed onto his trousers and onto nearby stones. Small apples rolled toward a drain and settled against a stone. A seller of fruit laughed at the sudden mess.

Milo lifted the pillow and squeezed its sides. The cover felt damp, yet the filling stayed light and fresh. He took one brave step backward. A stall of herbs steamed beside him. Mint leaves, a natural healer for tired throats, hung above the fire. Their warmth dried the damp cloth quickly. Milo wrapped the pillow in spare brown paper from the stall. He walked on, drops falling behind him. At the garden gate, he gave the dry gift to his grandmother. He closed the wooden garden latch firmly.
