Morning light filled the small kitchen.

Tara opened a new cookbook on the counter. As a beginner, she read each step twice. She wanted to cook vegetable soup for her brother. A medium pot waited next to the sink. She washed each carrot and potato with quick motions. A small piece of onion slipped from her hand. It rolled, touched the switch, and the radio started playing.

Tara jumped; the spoon knocked the pot. Water splashed onto the stove and hissed loudly. Tara grabbed a towel and dried the surface quickly. She laughed as the rhythm from the radio grew faster. The beat matched her hands like a quick drum game. She placed every vegetable inside the pot with careful taps. After twenty minutes, sweet steam floated around her face. She tasted the soup and discovered gentle sweetness from apple. She lifted a floating apple piece and grinned. The soup still tasted good, so she filled two bowls. Tara set them on the table and switched off the radio.
