The Runaway Oranges- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light filled the small kitchen.

Sam lifted a woven basket that held round oranges. He wanted to give them to his neighbor across town. He stepped outside and walked along the narrow street. A sudden breeze pushed loose papers across his path. Birds hopped near the curb, searching for crumbs. Sam listened to their quick chirps while he walked.

One paper slid under his shoe and he slipped forward. The basket tipped and oranges rolled down the gentle slope. They bumped through an open gate and scattered across the yard. The oranges rolled in no order and touched every corner. A teacher stopped marking chalk lines and chased the bright fruit. One orange reached the clinic steps where a doctor stepped outside. The fruit brushed his heel and continued toward a metal drain. Sam ran, stretched low, and blocked the drain with his hand. The teacher arrived, and the doctor placed others into Sam's arms. They lined up, passing each orange back to the basket. Leaves clung to the rattan rim; juice marked the street. Sam lifted the basket again and walked toward the neighbor.

清晨的陽光照進小廚房。
