English 원문
The oak table was wider than Miguel’s shoulders, yet he and Lara aimed to carry it from the ground floor workshop to the roof terrace. Sunlight bounced off the stairwell rails, turning each metal bar into a bright line. Warm air rose past their ankles, carrying the smell of sawdust and varnish. Miguel lifted the back end; Lara guided the front. Their goal looked simple, but the first corner proved a logistical challenge when the tabletop struck the wall and refused to rotate.
They tilted, slid, and even balanced the table on one leg; still the edge scraped paint from the plaster. Relentless efforts left their shirts dark with sweat. Miguel muttered about throwing in the towel, yet Lara steadied the weight instead of answering. The corridor had been measured before, but the table legs had been added afterward, making new problems. A neighbour named Felix appeared with a rope, suggesting they hoist the table outside the railing. The idea sounded mutually beneficial: Miguel would gain another pair of hands, and Felix would borrow Lara’s drill later. They looped the rope, pushed through a window, and slowly pulled. Even so, the logistical challenge persists; halfway up, the rope twisted around a drainpipe, stopping every movement.
Felix climbed one step, untangled the strands, and the table finally cleared the ledge. On the terrace, new trouble surfaced: one leg wobbled because its screws had been stripped by years of rust. Lara kneeled, pressing the loose joint together while Miguel searched for spare bolts in a toolbox. Nothing fit, so they slid the table against a stone planter, leaving the weak corner braced by brick. A loose shingle hung above the gutter, scraping the metal whenever the wind shifted.
