English 원문
A bell chimed above the fruit stall, its quick ring bouncing between awnings. Lily paused beside her busy pottery table. The bright note faded under louder haggling. Last night’s gale had tilted several crates, so she began rearranging her display. She lifted each delicate cup, wiped dust away, and placed it neatly on a narrow plank. Each cup felt light relative to the chunky wooden bowls behind them. Warm spice smoke mixed with cool citrus scent along the lane. A borrowed cart loaded with fabric bolts stood behind her. Its single brake bit against a loose pebble on the gentle slope.
For two breaths the cart remained completely still. Then the pebble jerked free and the load began to roll. The wooden frame picked up speed, its left wheel skidding over orange peels. At that moment Lily reached for the final cup, turning her back to the lane. The rim of a fabric bolt brushed the plank and bumped it forward. The row of cups rocked from side to side. One cup tipped, spun along the plank, and leaped toward the ground. A stack of soft tissue sheets sat under the table. They remained from wrapping earlier orders. The runaway cup landed on that stack, bounced once, and stopped without a crack.
Lily steadied herself as the saved cup wobbled, then grew still. The cart rolled another step before a basket vendor lunged toward it. He blocked the front wheel with his boot and wedged a heavier stone beneath the brake. Lily returned his nod and slid the plank back, leaving a wider space near the edge. The air between stalls still rang with bargaining calls. Her attention drifted upward when a bright kite swooped above the rooftops. She placed the rescued cup onto the tissue pile and wiped her hands. Then she watched the kite loop higher into the afternoon haze.
