Rain Marks on the Swing Seat-

English 원문
The swing chains were swaying, but every seat was still taken. Quinn had arrived early, yet a new class group had beaten him by seconds, and the only free space lay inside the sandbox. The rubber tiles under his shoes pressed back, slightly springy and cool. A thin film of drizzle lay on each metal bar like chilled oil, making every surface slick. Sand near the edge felt compact, almost clay-hard, while the middle showed a shallow plateau that children had patted flat during the morning.
Quinn pressed both palms into that raised patch. Grains clung to his skin, rough as salt. A plastic shovel, half-buried, brushed his knee; he pulled it free and noted its blade was smooth on one side, jagged on the other. The scoop still had merit for digging, so he began carving a trench around the plateau, hoping the task would fill the wait. Resistance came quickly: the shovel’s handle bent under pressure and a wetter layer of sand glued itself to the tool. He shook it loose, then grabbed a nearby bucket to transform the trench into a shallow moat. While scraping, the shovel struck something rubbery. Further digging revealed a small toy platypus, its surface mottled and cool. Water collected in the moat, leaving the creature half-washed, half-coated with mud.
A squeak from the swings signaled space at last. Quinn hurried over, only to find the seat filmed with fresh droplets. If the drizzle stopped, the chains would dry, but for now his trousers would soak through. He returned to the sandbox, tore a strip from an old towel that had been forgotten on a bench, and wiped the seat. The cloth drank the water but left behind a faint damp shadow. Quinn placed the platypus on the emptied swing, then leaned back; a darker outline spread across the towel’s frayed edge.
