English 원문
Only three finger-widths of soap solution remained in the bucket. A dried foam ring around the rim showed where it had once stood higher. Cruz raised a wire frame from the amber liquid, holding his breath while a shimmering sheet gathered across the metal. Gold, rust, and magenta bands slid downward like melted caramel. Halfway to the wind-shadow wall, a daring puff of wind wrinkled the film; droplets began to scatter toward the grass before he steadied his arm. The wobble thinned a stripe that always started at the same solder lump on the corner, yet the sheet still hung together. The frame had been dipped at that corner each time, so the metal there gleamed brighter than the rest. He paused beside the fence, sunlight glowing orange through the film, watching the swirl in its center tighten into a miniature vortex. If another gust arrived, the sheet would burst.
An unexpected crash of terracotta cut the silence. A neighborhood cat had nudged a flowerpot off the back step, and shards now glittered on the patio. Cruz lowered the frame onto the table and hurried over, broom in hand. By the time every curved piece was swept aside, several minutes had slipped away. When he returned, the soap sheet had burst, and the solution inside the bucket looked different. The surface carried clouded streaks, and the liquid rested lower again. The foam ring, first noticed as a simple stain, now sat thicker than before, a memento of evaporation and dripping loss. He had dipped at that level moments earlier; the drop revealed how quickly the mixture changed whenever his attention wandered.
Cruz considered stopping, yet the dwindling pool offered one more chance. He chose a star frame, wet a fingertip, and smoothed the solder before dipping again. The motion folded the darker layer upward; currents spiralled like cinnamon in coffee and the gradient disappeared. Foam gathered, yet he waited until the biggest bubbles burst. With a slow lift, the new film formed, brighter and thicker. Crossing the lawn, he angled the points against the breeze. The adjustment dulled vibration, and the colours stayed stable. Stray drops tossed off the lowest tip, yet the membrane held long enough for him to admire the shifting bands. After the film finally sighed apart, he laid the star-shaped frame beside the bucket.
