Green Lines Across the Towel-

English 원문
A coloured pencil at the table’s edge rocked gently, nudged by Xena’s elbow while she shaded a diagram. Oscar stood opposite the glass row where three cylindrical glasses caught sliced sunlight and pooled slim rectangles of shadow on the towel. Red, blue, and yellow water lifted gradually through pale stalks; the blue patch beneath spread wide like a miniature swimming pool. He had placed the row carefully earlier because equal spacing helped his ruler measure climbing height for the notebook sketch. A cool draft slipped through the half-open window and lingered around the blue glass, slowing its coloured ascent. The slow but continuous rise still looked sustainable enough to entertain him for an entire afternoon of careful watching. If he moved that glass closer to the warmer light, the flow would probably match the other two.
Oscar curled fingers around the towel edge and slid the blue glass forward, lowering his shoulders to avoid jostling Xena’s workspace. The towel bunched, tilting the yellow glass outward; a ribbon of dye dribbled down, forming striped marks across the fabric. Those fresh bands overlapped the earlier neat rectangles, turning parts of the cloth green and ruining his planned comparison grid. At the same moment, the blue glass finally reached the sunlit strip, and tiny bubbles rose inside the stalk like flickering lanterns. One vascular channel near the cut base was being blocked by an air pocket, yet warmer water started slipping around the obstacle. Pale threads inside the celery linked neighboring channels like quiet family ties hidden beneath the crunchy skin. Oscar straightened, noticed the spreading stain, and paused while droplets gathered at the towel’s edge, ready to fall.
He eased the yellow glass inward so its base pressed a thicker fold, then smoothed the towel without undoing the new curve. Now the row bent gently toward the window; distances were uneven, yet every stalk stood upright and the blue one brightened visibly. He had already recorded the first heights, so the imperfect line still matched his notebook sketch after a small correction. Near the sink, Moritz, working as a translator on a headset, sliced a fresh stalk for later trials and left it dripping. Oscar stepped back, carefully pencilled the adjusted positions, and then wiped stray dye from the damp fingertips. The tap kept releasing separate drops; each tiny impact rippled outward on the steel basin after Oscar left the table.
