It turns, then slows on the mat.
Time and rubbing change its spin.
Hector lowers his eye to the gap.
His nose almost touches the mat.
The space under the shelf looks dark.
He shifts his head to the side.
"It is open," the father says.
He sits by the shelf, bear on lap.
On the sill, the cup cap sits.
It rests halfway on the threads.
The top gives a tiny bump.
The soft mat trembles a little.
A small car creeps from the shadow.
Blue paint shows under the dust.
Hector glances at the damp patch.
The ring is thinner and paler.
On the sill, the cap still sits crooked.
A clear bead clings at the rim.
