A slanted sunbeam slides across the rug.
Seth crouches near the low shelf. His toy fox rests behind it. Seth reaches through the gap. Air smells like laundry.
He pushes his small hand inside. His fingers tap soft fur. Space ends. The fox stays still.
Seth rolls a puffy pillow flat. He presses it against the shelf. The pillow edge bends and slips. Dust floats in the light. Nothing moves.
He lifts a round wooden block. The block is smooth and firm. He slides it into the gap. The block nudges the fox slowly. The toy glides out on the rug.
Seth picks the fox up. A pair of socks tumble off the shelf. One lands on the sofa nearby. Blue rain dots cover the socks. Morning heat makes window dew melt.
A grown-up passes the door. It gives a quick yes nod.
Seth steps into the bright hallway.
