Sunlight slides on the counter.
A faint soap smell hangs.
Steam lifts from a pot.
I stand at the counter.
I reach for a red apple.
I carry it to the sink.
A light plastic cup waits there.
I set the apple in.
It does not fit.
It bumps.
The cup clicks on the counter.
A small toy horse sits inside.
Water tilts and wobbles near it.
I lift the horse out.
I place it by the board.
On the fridge, a paper butterfly magnet rests.
Steam drifts. Then it clears.
I ask, "Can the tap run?"
A low voice says, "It runs now."
Water flows over the apple.
I rub with a damp cloth.
Drops slide to the drain.
The red apple glints on the board.
