Rain taps.
A thick drop runs down the pane.
On the sill, a small paper dries.
A wet paint stroke turns dull.
A soft cloth sits folded here.
A neat stitch lines its edge.
Chalk dust dots the rail.
A mother duck and duckling stick on the glass.
A thin water line shines on the rail.
A draft slips from the open door.
Paper lifts.
It hides part of the rail.
Vivian tilts her head left.
Through the gap, the rail shows clear.
Under the paper, the cloth peeks out.
A tiny star stitch sits there.
The teacher says, "Good morning, Vivian."
At the rail, a round drop swells.
It hangs, not falling yet.
The teacher rises and walks into the bright hallway.
