The park clock on a pole ticks. It ticks again. A red rug lies near my bench. A small chess board sits on it. A stuffed sheep leans by the board.

At the hedge, the other child reaches. Leaves shake. The ball pops out and rolls. It bumps the rug. The stuffed sheep tips over. "I have it!" the child says.

A pale leaf drifts down. It rests on a white chess square.
