She presses the stick into mud.
A bubble pops.
She sits on the dry step.
A carrot rests by her knee.
She wipes the carrot with her sleeve.
The grown-up says, "Big puddle today."
A metal grid covers the drain.
Halle holds a flat stone over it.
She lets it go.
It lands on the bars and stays.
She picks a smaller pebble.
She drops it through the grid.
It goes plink.
Halle taps the big puddle again.
Wide rings move toward the wall.
A water strider skates onto them.
