Nội dung truyện
English Bản gốc
Vita set her small mud kitchen by the tap and a flat ceramic tile. An old metal griddle lay on the table as a make-believe pan, cool under her palm. Birch sat within reach on the step with a tin cup of water. A round badge about the environment was pinned to his cap and caught a bit of light. Cool shade lay over the corner, and a damp, earthy smell hung there. Vita scooped dark soil into a bowl and stirred in a slow pour from the cup. The wooden spoon clicked on metal, and the mixture thickened against its edge.
She pinched a ball, pressed it flat on the griddle, and made a round badge. A small leaf from the low vegetation by the fence went face-down, and its little lines left a clear print. She set the disk on the tile. For the next one, she used drier soil from a shady patch. The mud broke at the edge and left a rough rim in her hand. She shrugged and moved to a wetter spot near the tap. The new mix slid smoother across her fingers and left streaks on her wrists.
Birch lifted the griddle by its handle to clear a mark along the rim. A small beetle shot from the cool shadow. Its quick departure sent a tiny splash from Vita's spoon onto her wrist. She laughed and turned the griddle over. A thin pat met the underside, and faint rings pressed into the mud. When she raised the piece, pale circles showed on the top like a little map. Sunlight reached the tile, and a fine line opened on the first badge. Vita set the ringed badge beside it. A clear bead gathered at the edge of the new disk and dropped.
Bản dịch

Story Discussion - Vita's Mud Badges
Cool shade, a damp, earthy smell, the metal griddle feeling cool under Vita's palm, the wooden spoon clicking on metal, faint pale circles appearing on the mud like a little map, and a clear bead of water gathering at the edge of the disk.
Yes. The beetle's quick departure caused a tiny splash from Vita's spoon onto her wrist.
She first used drier soil, which caused the mud to break at the edge and leave a rough rim. Because of that problem she moved to a wetter spot near the tap, and the new mix slid smoother and left streaks on her wrists. Later Birch lifted the griddle and a beetle shot out, making the spoon splash. Vita turned the griddle over so the underside pressed faint rings into the mud; when she lifted the piece and sunlight reached the tile, a fine line opened on the first badge and a bead of water gathered at the edge and dropped.
She seems playful and curious because she treats the griddle as a make-believe pan and experiments with different soils and leaves. She also appears relaxed and amused: she shrugs when a rim breaks and laughs after the tiny splash hits her wrist.

Role Play - The Beetle and the Splash
同時練習描述事件順序(what happened first / next / then)。
- •“Oh! Are you okay? The beetle scared me and I didn't mean to splash you.”
- •“Sorry about that. Did you see the faint rings on the mud after I flipped the griddle?”
Creative Writing - The Beetle's Short Journey
Vita、Birch、the griddle、the tile、the tap、the spoon、mud、leaf和the bead。

過去式被動的基本形式是 be 的過去式(was / were)+ 過去分詞(past participle),例如故事句子 "A round badge about the environment was pinned to his cap" 中的 "was pinned"。要把被動句改成主動句,就要把動作者(agent)放在句首,並把動詞改成過去式,例如將上句改為 "Someone pinned a round badge about the environment to his cap."

Cultural Connection -
