English 原文
On the northern edge of the riverside market, Mateo positioned himself opposite a broad terracotta wall that carried an intricate mosaic of clay shards and colored glass. The first long beam of sunlight slipped through the narrow gap between two warehouses, and a fusion of orange, cobalt, and gold shimmered across the uneven surface. He angled his camera, measuring the distance with the strap stretched tight, aware that the display unfolded only during a brief slice of the morning. The gradual shift of the sun pressed the light downward, reshaping every color minute by minute. Beside him, vendors lifted canopies, baskets thudded on tabletops, and footsteps beat a restless rhythm on the cobblestones, each movement threatening to spill into his lens.
He unfolded his tripod, yet one aluminium leg refused to lock. Fingers tapped the release button twice before the catch snapped into place; the tool finally steadied on the stones. Just as the frame sharpened, a vendor pushed a handcart stacked with jars across the line of sight, wheels rattling, glass chiming. Mateo stepped back, letting the cart pass, but another obstacle arrived—a puff of steam rose from a kettle on the next stall, curling straight toward the mosaic. The cloud thinned, then caught the new sunlight, throwing a striking veil across the tiles. The scene held unexpected potential, so he adjusted the exposure rather than waiting for the air to clear. A passing gull shrieked; several pigeons flapped up from the roof, casting quick shadows that rippled over the wall and the pavement.
An opening appeared in the crowd, and Mateo pressed the shutter. At the same instant, a small boy chasing a bright marble darted between the stalls, skidding to a stop inside the frame. The camera’s click landed a breath before the boy scooped up the glass sphere and dashed away again, leaving only the echo of his trainers against stone. Mateo examined the preview: the silhouette cut sharply against the glowing mosaic, the steam still drifting, the pigeons still lifting—a fusion of motion and stillness he had not planned yet now owned the picture. Vendors settled into routine, canopies stopped shifting, and the sun slid lower, pulling the colors back into plain clay. Steam drifted above the terracotta wall.
