English 原文
Maya stood beside the small park stage, rolling her shoulders to loosen them. She had spent two weeks shaping every line of an eloquent poem that spoke for the quiet river behind the trees. The portable speaker had been tested twice during rehearsal, yet the moment the host introduced her, the sound from the device dropped to a muted whisper. A cluster of children at the front pressed their hands over their ears, trying to catch each syllable. Maya’s goal held steady: advocate clean water with words that could carry empathy beyond the lawn.
She knelt, pushed tangled cables aside, and clicked each plug again. A spark of static leapt, then vanished. If the cable had stayed connected, the delay would have disappeared, but the crowd had begun to murmur. Her fingers found silver tape in her pocket; she wrapped it around the loose jack, only for the breeze to tug a page from her stand. The sheet fluttered under a bench where Theo, her younger brother, crouched with paint on his palms. He retrieved the paper, tapped it twice, and moved to the side of the platform without speaking. No one had asked him; his shoulders simply squared, and his hands lifted as the poem restarted.
With each verse, Theo’s arms traced shapes in the air, forming quick pictures that echoed Maya’s rhythm. Heads tilted; widening eyes marked understanding spreading across the audience, even among grandparents who leaned forward with cupped ears. Maya’s voice grew clear again, riding the repaired speaker while Theo’s silent translation flowed beside her. Surprise flickered when applause rose not only for words but also for motion. Pages settled, the tape held, and the river’s distant surface reflected late sunlight.
Beneath the soft evening lights, Maya’s poem pages rested flat against the wooden stand.
