Nia Beneath the Moving Wheels-

English 原文
Nia strode into the museum atrium as stained-glass daylight glimmered across a vast kinetic sculpture overhead. Wheels, rods, and silver fins turned like slow fireworks, and every rotation scattered soft tones that bounced along the marble. She paused to contemplate the rhythm, then angled toward a wide circle drawn on the floor directly below the mechanism; from there, visitors could watch a timed burst of colored strips scheduled for noon. A thin program booklet rolled inside her palm, already creased where her earlier grip tightened during the queue. Her observable aim was simple: stand inside the circle before the burst began.
Crowd flow pushed sideways, shoes sliding over polished stone while prams and backpacks created shifting walls. A boy brushing past clipped Nia’s elbow; the booklet slipped, skated under a railing, and lodged against a brass gear near the sculpture’s support column. She crouched, reached, missed, and felt fabric catch against the rail. Time pressed forward—clocks, murmurs, footsteps—and the sculpture’s outer ring continued rotating even as her fingers scraped empty air. The moment carried ordinary strain rather than danger, yet friction thickened the space between her and the falling confetti she still expected.
All at once the wheels above locked with a metallic cough, and motion stilled. The sudden quiet ran through the hall like an unexpected rest in music. An aspiration for height lingered in the frozen structure, every upward vane frozen mid-climb. Visitors looked upward; a camera shutter clicked somewhere; someone’s scarf fluttered and settled again. Nia noticed the program wedged between two teeth of the lower gear—her own small accident halting the grand device. She held a feather-light paintbrush borrowed from a display cart, slipped its handle through the railing gap, and flicked. The paper slid free. The sculpture answered with a low hum, wheels catching the rhythm they had lost.
Color rained in a sudden cascade. Confetti spiraled over umbrellas, shoulders, and open palms, the delayed burst now doubled by surprise. Nia’s quick brushwork left her under a swirling column of paper; strands landed on her hair, sleeves, and shoes while delighted gasps rippled outward. A nearby curator remarked on her knack for timely problem-solving, yet the words vanished beneath laughter and falling color. Strips of bright paper rested across the polished tiles.
