Leah left her cottage during a magical evening when clouds stayed open. She hoped to reach the moon-thread marketplace before the final stall dimmed. She has visited the fair since childhood, yet tonight lanterns swayed quicker than usual. A moonlit path curved beside a flowing stream that murmured against low stones. The water had risen since noon and now splashed across the narrow footbridge. Crowds heading home filled the bridge, slowing each careful step she made. Paper lanterns that hung from wires reflected silver flecks onto every passing coat.

Halfway across, a wheelbarrow slipped; crates scattered and blocked the center boards completely. With minutes fading, Leah stepped back and studied the riverbank below the rail. She noticed a low vendor platform that reached close to the water. The platform belonged to a carpenter who displayed a single, enormous comfy chair. Its wooden arms touched the bank, offering a dry gap above the current. Leah climbed down, balanced on the seat, and hopped to the far side. When she entered the square, stalls were closing, yet one ribbon still glittered. Her eyebrows lifted; the ribbon was tied around the parcel she already carried. She walked onward while lights dimmed and the stream whispered behind.
