Lena had promised her group a striking photo for the science fair, so she hurried toward the park just after a summer shower. Drops still hung on leaves, and the air smelled like wet clay. At the center of the lawn stood a life-size triceratops statue that the class had been studying all month. She raised her camera, yet the dull sky flattened every color. Thunder rolled again, as if trying to awaken the sluggish evening light, and she frowned at the gray display on her screen.

Fresh resistance arrived when a film crew wheeled equipment across the plaza. The area had been encircled by cables, tripods, and bright reflectors within minutes. A guard waved passers-by aside, and Lena’s path closed. She circled the hedge, searching for any gap. A narrow footpath, once cleared by an unknown trailblazer, curved behind a row of slick bushes. Mud clung to her shoes, and twice she steadied herself against the branches, yet she finally reached an open angle. She pressed the shutter, but raindrops flecked the lens, and the first pictures blurred like fogged memories.

Lightning split the clouds without warning, a jagged bolt that flashed silver across the bronze animal. For an instant, every droplet on the statue began to glisten, outlining horns, scales, even the deep grooves along its gigantic frill. Lena gasped, wiped the lens with her sleeve, and switched to a faster exposure. If she had arrived five minutes earlier, the crew would have blocked this sudden brilliance. She captured three quick frames before the sky dimmed again and the crew lights spoiled the natural shine. Later, at her desk, the final shot rested on her screen, the statue outlined in silver.
