English 原文
Mila balanced a portable microphone in one hand while pulling open the heavy basement door. The drama club needed a clear voice-over, and she had volunteered to become the narrator for their historical play. Beyond the door waited a narrow corridor that ended in a stone chamber once used to store city records. An arch framed the entrance, its keystone darkened by time yet still locking the curve in place. The walls had been painted in bright white earlier that week, and the air carried a faint, sterile tang. A single lamp buzzed overhead, throwing deep shadows across cabinets pushed against the sides.
Mila set her script on a box, pressed record, and released the first clear line. The lamp crackled; its filament produced a deep hum that swallowed half the sentence. She had switched off the lamp earlier, yet an automatic circuit re-lit it three seconds later. After pulling the plug from the socket, she spoke again, but a slow drip tapped a pipe overhead. If the room had stayed silent, her task would have finished quickly. A sudden draft flipped every page off the box and across the tiles. Her knees touched the floor while she gathered them, fingers trembling against paper edges.
The microphone light glowed steady, and Mila delivered the full speech in a single breath-controlled take. She played back the file, expecting silence after her last word; instead, a warm baritone continued the story. Her shoulders jumped toward her ears, and the player almost slipped from her hand. A cupboard door slid open, revealing Hugo, the sound technician, crouched behind stacked boxes with a sheepish smile. He had recorded a hidden second track while she battled the noises, aiming to audition as co-narrator. Mila’s lungs released a shaky laugh, and she rewound so both could judge the accidental duet. Two chairs remained side by side under the steady microphone light.
