Liam reached the town hall after school today. He wanted to watch the traveling magician that night. Colorful drawings showed a lively dance during each trick. He entered early and practiced small steps of waltz alone. A tired yawn escaped while he waited near benches. His shoe slipped on smooth dust and bumped a stacked chair. The chair knocked another chair; metal legs clinked across space. A broom fell, hit a switch, and darkness filled corners.

Liam tapped his phone flashlight and spotted a hidden side door. He pushed it open and gasped at bright spinning sparks. The magician stood inside, adjusting cards near a floating scarf. He turned, eyes wide, and smiled. He lifted his arms and began a slow waltz. Liam followed; shoes traced circles across the dusty floor. Thin dust twirled around their shoes. Music from a small speaker clicked off and stopped. The magician placed a shiny ticket into Liam's hand. Liam pocketed it and walked outside under calm evening lights. The hall door closed behind him with a soft click.
