English 原文
Milo crossed the verdant park with a rolled blanket wedged beneath one arm and a paper lantern in the other. Evening light thickened to amber while people streamed toward the bandstand, forming the first lines of a public gathering. He stopped near a low maple whose leaves already blushed ochre and unrolled the blanket, pressing each corner flat. A stray breeze buckled the fabric; one edge curled upward. Milo set the lantern down, knelt, and anchored the corner with a shoe until the cloth stayed against the grass.
A moment later, Lyra threaded through the newcomers, balancing a wooden tray of dumplings. The space beside Milo offered the last clear view of the bandstand, so she lowered the tray there. Her knee caught the upturned edge, tilting the dumplings toward the ground. Milo lunged, steadied the tray with both hands, and Lyra’s shoulders relaxed as the food settled again. They exchanged a brief nod; neither spoke. Two bicyclists coasted past, the wheels clicking like distant metronomes, then slowed as they searched for space that no longer existed.
Music drifted from the stage, and lanterns began to glow overhead. Milo lifted his paper lantern, discovering its thin wire hook had bent in his pocket. He attempted to straighten it; the metal snapped. Lyra watched, set her tray down, and produced a narrow ribbon from her sleeve. Together they looped the ribbon through the lantern’s frame, yet their first knot slipped. Lyra gripped the ribbon tighter; Milo adjusted the frame. On the second attempt, the knot held, and the lantern rose, swaying gently above them. The crowd’s eyes followed its ascent, an unplanned hush moving through the park before conversation resumed.
A round, luminous harvest moon cleared the rooftops just as the band changed tempo. Children gasped at its sudden brightness. Milo’s blanket, once an island, now sat at the center of interlocking picnic rugs. Reaching for a dumpling, he brushed Lyra’s elbow; they shifted opposite directions, then laughed under their breath at the near collision. The walk across town had felt like an odyssey to Milo, yet the evening now unfolded in slow, effortless measures. Around them, instruments faded, voices softened, and lanterns hovered in gentle clusters. Above everything, the moon rested unchanged against the wide sky.
