English 原文
Rain mist drifted above the riverside arcade while Soren balanced a flat portfolio under one arm. The tiled footbridge ahead began to meander over the water, its glazed bricks shining in irregular shades. A street painter knelt near the entrance, tracing an ephemeral maze with chalk that washed lighter each time a droplet landed. Soren angled his step to avoid the damp pattern; his observable goal stayed simple—reach the gallery on the opposite bank before noon.
Halfway up the first span, a rusted door guarding the covered section resisted his push. His shoulder met the panel once, twice; the swollen wood released with a groan, and humid air rolled through. Inside, an amateur actor practiced a breathy monologue to the blank walls, every consonant bouncing along the arches. One overstated syllable transcended the roof and slipped outside, mingling with river gulls circling overhead. The piccolo pitch of that voice marked the space as oddly noteworthy, though most passers-by hurried through without turning their heads.
Just beyond the performer, Mira appeared, hauling a low cart stacked with unfired clay miniatures. The walkway narrowed where a drainage grate had buckled. Soren’s boot tapped the uneven metal; his balance shifted, and a gust funneled through the opening door behind him. Sheets from his portfolio spiraled upward. One page landed face-up on Mira’s crate; charcoal lines formed a quick study of a woman waiting by a kiln. Mira reached for it, her eyebrows arching at the resemblance to her own profile. Papers slid everywhere, clapping against balustrades and skidding beneath benches.
Mira steadied the cart while Soren crouched, palms flattening damp corners back into order. They eased the stack together, sliding the unexpected portrait on top. No word passed on how the sketch existed, yet both sets of shoulders straightened with mirrored timing. Wheels rolled again, matching footsteps. At the arch’s exit, city horns flickered in the distance, and river current clapped softly under planks. The bundled sketches rested against the crate while the river lights steadied beneath the planks.
