English 原文
Leo balanced a slim envelope between his fingers while the city afternoon crowded the narrow alley behind the concert hall. A handwritten address on the flap glimmered whenever sunlight bounced off passing windows. With scant minutes before rehearsal, he searched for the side door the musicians used, eager to slide the envelope onto the conductor’s desk. The hall inhaled and exhaled through vents overhead, blowing fallen petals across the stone. A latch finally appeared under a faded awning; Leo pressed it, yet the door refused to budge. Brass scales drifted from inside, as if the hidden orchestra tuned without concern. He leaned in, shoulders tight, pushed again, and the latch released only halfway, catching his coat sleeve and tilting him off balance.
He steadied himself, then noticed a sheet of notation fluttering through the opening. It swirled under the vent’s breath and landed at his shoes. The pencilled marks formed a melody he recognized from childhood broadcasts but never played. Before he could slide the paper back, a violinist’s bow poked through the gap, fingers stretching. No voice sounded, only the silent request of the hand. Leo passed the music toward the gesture; the bow withdrew, yet a small pouch came out in return. Confused, Leo accepted the cloth bundle. The door clicked shut. Street noise resumed, light clattering over puddles. Weeks earlier, bright tidings of secret gifts had circled the conservatory, though no one proved the stories. He loosened the drawstring. Inside rested a folded card and a silver pin shaped like a treble clef—a token often linked to the hall’s elusive benefactor.
A hush settled over the alley, as though the busy avenue forgot its rhythm for a beat. Leo slipped the silver pin into his breast pocket and folded the card beside it, leaving the envelope suddenly empty. He aimed to return through a wider entrance later. Before he could step away, the door eased open without warning. A gust from an interior vent lifted the light envelope from his palm, carried it over the threshold, and set it squarely on a vacant music stand just inside. Strings, brass, and percussion joined at once; the emerging harmony swelled, folding the thin paper into the larger sound. The door swung back into its frame, sealing the moment. An empty envelope rested beneath the silent music stand.
