English 原文
Joel pushed the narrow door and stepped into the abandoned warehouse beside the river. Dust floated in the torch beam, and cool air slid across his arms. An iron smell mixed with old oil; distant traffic rumbled beyond the brick wall. He has heard club stories about a stamping press that once served the factory. The press, tall as a bus, stood behind crates that time had warped and tilted. Some boards have cracked, and a warning board had been fixed across one split gap. Joel planned to photograph the machine for the club magazine. He gripped one crate, tried lifting, felt it shift, then set it down with a grunt.
He dragged a narrow cart closer, rolled two boxes onto it, and slid them aside. The gap remained tight, so he changed tack; a broken broom handle offered leverage. The top crate tipped forward, landed safely, and the path cleared by a hand's width. A faded poster about innovation, curled like autumn bark, was hanging nearby. A date that had been printed in bright red still showed 1952. Joel crouched beside the opening, camera ready in both hands. When his elbow brushed a loose switch, hidden machinery shuddered. Gears clanked, belts twitched, and a metallic cough echoed under the roof. Blue paint chips began to emerge from a vent as the press pushed once, then froze. Joel’s eyes widened; the camera clicked. The gear nearest his shoe rocked twice and settled.
