Morning light filled the narrow valley.

Mia walked along a wooden bridge above a clear stream.

Cold air from the nearby glacier touched her cheeks.

She carried a yellow leaf in one gentle hand.

She aimed the leaf toward the river below.

She placed it on the bright water.

The current pulled it forward beside a drifting stick.

The stick bumped the leaf against a grey rock.

The leaf turned, tapped another rock, and slid below.

The water moved it out of sight under the bridge.

Mia leaned over the rail and searched the flowing water.

A bright shape flashed between ribbons of white foam.

A small plastic dolphin rose, spun, and touched the stone bank.

It stayed under the stick all along.

Mia reached down, water splashing onto her sleeve.

The dolphin toy felt smooth and cool in her palm.

The stick wedged against the bank and caught more leaves.

A small pile formed and slowed the stream beside her boots.

Mia set the dolphin on the boards and watched the new whirlpool.

The water kept circling, but the leaf never returned.

Mia tucked the toy in her pocket and walked toward the path.

白い泡の筋の間で明るい形がきらめいた。

小さなプラスチックのイルカが浮かび、回り、石の岸に触れた。

それはずっと棒の下に隠れていたようだ。

ミアは身をかがめ、水が袖に跳ねた。

イルカのおもちゃは手の中で滑らかで冷たかった。

棒は岸に引っかかり、さらに多くの葉を集めた。

小さな山ができ、彼女の足元で流れをゆっくりにした。

ミアはイルカを板の上に置き、新しい渦を見つめた。

水は回り続けたが、葉は戻らなかった。

ミアはおもちゃをポケットにしまい、小道へ歩き出した。
