Daylight Over the Canvas-

English 原文
Mira balanced a rolled canvas against her shoulder while Felix unfolded an aluminum ladder inside the old train hall. The roof vaults rose unexpectedly high, their ribbed arches recalling a cathedral rather than a station. In the hush they heard only their shoes scraping across concrete and the flutter of pigeons nesting far above. Weak light slipped through narrow upper windows, leaving the floor in patches of silver and shadow; the hall felt too sparse for the size of the task waiting in the tube of fabric.
They wanted the painting—the tall image of a lighthouse at dusk—to hang where evening trains once stood. Felix climbed first, carrying a loop of cord. Halfway up he paused; the ladder frame yielded a groan under strain, and one leg rocked on loose grit. Mira steadied the base, knees bent, shoulders braced. Working together, they tried to eliminate a stubborn fold along the canvas edge by stretching it between two brass hooks embedded in rusted rail steel. Each tug shifted dust from forgotten rafters, and the cord kept slipping through Felix’s gloved fingers.
When the fold finally flattened, Felix reached higher to clip the last corner. Metal scraped stone; the sound echoed, sharper than the earlier noises, and a bolt hidden in the wall plate snapped. A section of the aged bracket tilted forward. Felix jerked backward to keep balance, and his boot kicked the ladder top against a pane of roof glass already cracked by years of heat and cold. The pane slid, then dropped with a pop of splintering edges. Daylight burst through the fresh gap, striking the painting so directly that the painted lantern on the lighthouse flared as though it had ignited for real.
Shards tinkled onto the floor, but none touched them. Mira stepped away, chin lifted, watching drifting motes swirl inside the sudden column of light. Felix descended slowly, every rung protesting. They rolled the spare cord, folded the ladder, and stared upward once more. Sunlight pooled around the canvas and dust drifted through the beam.
