She and Luca floated above a sprawling coral reef, each pocket of stone and branch glowing like painted glass. Far beneath their fins, a multitude of silvery fish moved in loose spirals, scattering whenever shadow passed. A muffled crackle from tiny shrimp filled the quiet. The siblings planned one clear photograph of a bright parrotfish that often drifted near the outer ledge.

Luca steadied the camera and pressed forward, yet drifting sand blurred the first attempt. He swung left and tried again; this time a sudden surge lifted him, and the lens caught only empty water. Their target slipped deeper, scales flashing once like a metal coin. While Mia adjusted the strap for a lower angle, an octopus eased from a crevice.
