English 原文
Mira stepped into the cricket club’s forgotten storeroom, and stale air closed around her like thick cloth. Afternoon light reached the floor in thin stripes, showing dust whirling through them. Posters of tournaments had faded to dull orange corners, and a banner that had been pinned above the bench now drooped like wet paper. She had promised her teammates new chalk for the scoreboard, so her eyes went straight to a wooden crate on the highest shelf. A clatter of metal chairs greeted her first attempt to reach it, the sudden cacophony waking a pigeon perched on the window frame. Its wings hammered against glass before it vanished, leaving silence that felt overwhelming in the small room.
Mira dragged a stepladder forward, but the top rung wobbled; she climbed anyway, knees brushing cobwebs. When her fingers touched the crate, something smooth shifted behind it. A green serpent uncoiled, scales sliding across old magazines. Mira froze, then tipped her head in an empathetic half-bow, giving the snake space. The animal slipped through a gap in the wall, and tension eased from her shoulders. She tugged the crate; rust on its hinges refused to move, so she rocked it side to side until the lid loosened enough to open. Inside lay sticks of chalk, a cracked stopwatch, and a tarnished medal stamped with the word champion across a running figure. Time had turned the ribbon gray, yet colors of enamel still clung to the tiny shoes. A gust from the high window flipped a poster, scattering brittle edges over the floor and reminding Mira that practice would begin soon. She pocketed the chalk, left the medal where it was, and climbed down carefully. A loose banner hung above the doorway.
