The Stone Hidden by the Volcano-

English 原文
Morning clouds drifted apart above the playground, leaving clean light over the science tables. Darius set his model volcano in the centre of a blue tarp and wiped clay from his fingers. The cardboard cone had been painted by hand and covered with damp soil for extra texture. Warm air carried a faint smell of vinegar, and bubbles fizzed inside a hidden flask under the cone. A small pressure gauge, borrowed from the physics room, jutted out near the base, its needle hovering at zero.
He planned a showy fountain, yet the first switch produced only a tired hiss and a thin ribbon of foam. The needle barely moved, so he tightened a stopper with the edge of his thumb and added another spoon of baking powder. When he tried again, the gauge jumped, then froze; something blocked the narrow tube leading toward the crater. He shook the cone gently, hoping loose grit would slide aside, but the blockage stayed in place. He glanced at the surrounding environment, checking that no other projects were too close. A sudden pop sounded beneath the tarp, and warm liquid sprayed through a hairline crack near the bottom panel.
Escaping foam washed away soil and uncovered a smooth stone figure the size of his thumb, shaped like a silent guardian. He crouched, turned the model sideways, and let pressure escape until the gauge dropped to a safe number. The cardboard walls sagged, yet the small figure remained upright, as if keeping watch over the messy experiment. He had practised the demonstration many times at home, but nothing in that experience prepared him for this debris. The cone now leaned against spare boards, and pinkish foam pooled around the tiny stone figure.
