The black-and-white animal, which had been chewing quietly, sniffed the new shape, nudged a stalk, and snapped a cluster of leaves free. In mixed company with curious children, Leah leaned forward and pressed her sketchbook flat with a heavy water bottle. More petals might have vanished, but a gardener stepped onto a low ladder and pulled a mesh screen across the bamboo rail, blocking the gap above the enclosure.
