English 原文
The rubber-coated rail felt cool and almost slippery under Kent’s fingers. A silver-blue crab, no larger than a cookie, shuffled from beneath the slide and paused on the damp ground. He crouched, watching its claws lift grains of sand like tiny scoops. The shell caught stray flashes from the drinking fountain’s pale light, and for a moment it looked carved from plastic. A crisp breeze brushed the swings, the chains chiming softly above his head. Kent inched nearer; the creature sidestepped, leaving faint marks on the blue-grey surface of the safety mat. Without touching it, he followed as it skirted a puddle and vanished behind the climbing frame’s steel lattice. The structure rose farther back, lines intersecting in angles an imaginative architect might have sketched in converging metal strokes.
Water from a brief shower had been pooling near the sandbox, and a narrow channel had been carved by the afternoon rain along the rubber tiles. The crustacean reappeared there, drifting with the trickle until a fallen toy truck blocked its way. Kent eased the truck aside, yet another barrier rose: a row of small shoes crowded around the only low spot where water could slip through the drain. The slide queue held the children in place, so the route stayed closed. He waited, shifting his weight, then chose to embark on guiding the crab toward an open grate beside the bench instead, where the stream continued unhindered.
He scooped damp sand with a forgotten plastic spade, adding it to the flow and shaping shallow walls that nudged the crab forward. Twice the tiny traveler stalled when the current slowed, and twice he deepened the gutter with his fingers until water pushed ahead again. At the grate he lifted the animal carefully; turning it over, he spotted a winding key sunk beneath crusted mud. The supposed visitor was a wind-up toy, abandoned and gradually animated by water rather than gears. Kent rinsed it under the fountain, tiny gears rotated softly as grit slid away. Kent set the plastic crab on the bench, and the swing beyond kept gliding on its own arc.
