Tess peeled the damp forms apart, repacked the lighter parcel, and the scale now showed the correct mass. At the same hour, beyond the service door, a mail cart shuddered as another clerk eased it over a metal threshold. A droplet from the earlier spill slipped through the gap, struck a wheel, and the cart rolled a finger’s width forward along the dim corridor.
