Luna jogged beside him, shoulder strap bouncing against her ribs while engine vibration rolled through the platform floor. Overhead speakers crackled, announcing doors about to close. The timetable display blinked; their connection stood twenty meters away, its brake lights glowing.

Cal lunged around a bench, but the wet sleeve brushed a suitcase and tipped the cup. Thin soil and water splashed onto the tiles, flowing toward a railing where a plover darted for scattered crumbs. The small bird pecked the stream, flicking droplets sideways. One stray bead struck Luna’s phone screen; she flinched, and her elbow nudged a maintenance bucket leaning against the post. Soap‐rich water from earlier cleaning gushed across the slope of the floor, turning the first trickle into a sliding sheet that hurried downhill. People shifted their weight to keep balance; a stroller wheel skidded, then stopped when its rubber edge wedged against a drainage grate.

Luna braced both hands under the bucket rim and heaved it upright. The flow slowed, but the new puddle had already reached an automatic ticket gate. Sparks did not jump; instead, the sensor simply blinked red and remained locked, redirecting the arriving crowd toward another aisle. Cal knelt, scooped the basil stem, and tucked the damp leaves inside a cherished sketchbook, pressing pages around them to absorb moisture. Their bus hissed away, yet a fresh departure time flashed onto the screen above. On the opposite platform, a different drip tapped the roof gutter, and a thread of water crept toward a stack of folded pamphlets.
