The rolling ribbon kept going, struck a stack of delivery boxes, and slowed; only a faint wobble remained. Outside the shop window, an unexpected burst of ovation rippled from a street band, the clapping lining up with each drip that escaped the vase rim. Maeve slid a bar mop across the floor, its folded edge absorbing the puddle before it could soak the lowest box where the morning’s charity auction labels still clung.

With the spill contained, she rewound the damp ribbon, trimmed fresh ends, and wrapped the bouquet. The curator nodded once, content with the finished piece, then stepped away. Maeve carried the mop back to the display case and noticed the bucket that had been full of daisies was now missing two stalks and tilted straighter than before. Beside her shoes, a single loose ribbon tail twirled beneath the slow breeze from the ceiling fan.
