A steady flutter from the hair dryer blurred the air above the waiting seats. Lily balanced one foot on the edge of a low magazine rack, stretching toward the tall product shelf. The spray bottle for her next cut lay empty; tension climbed up her calf while she reached higher. Warm fragrance—the essence of a tropical shampoo—drifted from the basin area and mingled with the crisp scent of clipped hair. Along the counter, a glass bowl already held rinse water the color of a shallow lagoon, tiny ripples shaking each time the dryer pulsed. Past that bowl, a heavyweight conditioner bottle blocked her fingers and held her goal just out of reach.

Lily shifted forward, shoulder brushing a bloom-heavy orchid that dangled above the mirror station. The stem bobbed, and a loose petal slid down, landing on a ceramic dish of polished pebbles. The dish inched sideways, tapped a miniature cactus pot, and tipped it. The pot thudded onto the swivel chair, jolting the seat into a slow roll. Castors glided; the chair’s arm nudged the metal trolley beside it. Wheels turned, carrying the loaded tray toward the open drawer under the mirror. Bottles chimed against one another while the trolley gathered speed along the smooth tiles.

Nadia, trimming fringe at the neighboring station, braced her thigh against the trolley handle and absorbed its weight, halting the slide before glass met glass. Lily bent, knees soft, and righted the cactus, setting each pebble back into its dish. Neither stylist watched the floor where water from the overturned pot seeped across worn tiles, slipping through a narrow groove left by years of rolling chairs. The stream widened around scattered hair clippings and drifted toward the dark space behind the storage closet door. Behind the swivel chairs, the thin ribbon of water kept travelling along the grout toward the unseen corner.

隔壁工作站修剪瀏海的娜蒂亞側身用大腿頂住推車把手，吸收了衝力，讓玻璃瓶避免相撞。莉莉彎膝扶正仙人掌，將每顆小石頭重新放回陶盤。兩位造型師都沒注意到地面上倒出的水正沿著因多年推椅而形成的細縫滲行，繞過散落的髮屑，往儲物櫃後方暗處移去。在旋轉椅後，一條細細的水紋仍沿著磁磚縫隙默默前行，朝著無人察覺的角落。
