Soft afternoon light filled the art room.
Oscar wanted the green paper in the low metal drawer.
He tugged once, but the drawer did not move.
A bunch of brushes rattled upon his second pull.
He slid a thin ruler under the drawer's front edge.
It scraped loudly, yet the metal box stayed firm.
A tiny bead of sweat rolled down his neck.
Oscar paused and ran his fingertips along the front edge.
One small patch felt warm against his skin.
The heat surprised him, and he could not explain it.
He pressed on the warm spot with his thumb.
The glue inside softened, and the drawer slid free.
Colored sheets rushed forward, falling piece by piece onto tiles.
A loose eraser bounced off a stool nearby.
They formed a bright carpet across the floor.
Oscar lifted one piece and began to fold a boat.
