Petals Over the Form-

English 原文
The pen’s chain scraped against Joel’s palm, the cool links sliding each time he shifted his grip. He leaned over the gritty laminate desk, copying numbers onto a customs form. The packet held cartoon-patterned plasters and a short note for his older sister, who had recently entered the nursing profession. Above him, the ticket system flashed B29; Joel’s slip read B33, leaving four turns of breathing room. The precise relationship between blinking digits and counter buzzers kept every chair moving like gears in a clock. A square of warm light stretched across the plastic chairs, and an elderly woman shuffled into it to bask while rereading her declaration.
The parcel felt heavier than expected, and the scale confirmed it: fifty grams over the allowed band. Joel peeled away a strip of bubble wrap, pressed the box flatter, and almost reached the target weight when sharp drizzle darkened the glass doors. His bicycle stood outside without cover, so he jogged out to pull it under the narrow awning. A gust spun petals from an overhanging azalea, several landing like pink confetti on his shoulders. He stayed away barely two minutes, yet when he pushed the door again, a new line had claimed his spot, and a sweating bottle now rested where his half-finished form lay.
Moisture from the bottle had soaked the top edge, warping the paper and feathering the ink. Joel tapped it; the damp fibers nudged back against his fingertip. Starting over would drop him to the end of the queue, so he folded the damaged corner behind the sheet, angled the pen sideways, and wrote the missing details in the narrow margin. A dry band near the bottom showed exactly where the condensation stopped, silent proof of the brief gap in time. When the buzzer chirped B33, he slid the parcel forward, edges still slightly soft from compression. At the same hour, a clerk inside the tiny philately booth pressed fresh stamps onto envelopes, each thud carrying on beneath the fluorescent hum.
