Seeds Between Robins-

English 原文
Warm ridges of the bench pressed against Fern’s fingertips as she slid closer to the rolled paper bag. A robin alighted on the feeder post, wings folding with a faint flutter, its chest a burst of copper against the honey-coloured tray. Fern tipped the bag; seeds rattled like dry rain, and a small drift formed where the wind had already pushed husks into ochre corners. She guided the stream with a wooden spoon borrowed from lunch, the utensil channeling grains without spilling. Around them, other birds dropped from the nearby tree, turning the platform into a miniature banquet. The water dish below gleamed, its sun-warmed surface as cloudy as thin vegetable soup. The robin darted forward, snatched a striped kernel, and cocked its head, the pale shell in its beak glowing for an instant like the lure of an anglerfish hidden in deep water.
Footsteps scuffed along the gravel path; Ian jogged past and pointed at Fern’s bag as a loud ringtone burst out, forcing her to stand, dig for the device, and step away beside the tree. By the time the short call ended, every winged diner had vanished. Fern hurried back. During her absence, the paper bag had torn along a corner; a loose ribbon of seed lay across the bench and into the grass. Several kernels had been crushed under her returning shoe. If she had stayed on the bench, the spill would have spread even farther. She crouched, gathered what she could, and paused. The robin returned, but instead of eating, it lifted a whole seed and flew to a low branch. There, a second, slimmer robin waited, shivering its wings. Fern’s earlier impression of a greedy guest shifted; the scene now looked like part of a quiet quest to ferry food home. She kept her palm open beneath the feeder, offering another small pile while the pair hovered between branch and tray, her arm held steady against the amber light.
