Sage Leaf Above the Stones-

English 原文
Kane crouched beside the trail margin and brushed away gravel, chasing the metallic tang of freshly exposed earth. A flat sandstone piece lifted into his hand, its cool underside releasing a damp clay smell that mixed with dry sage. He admired the tactile ridges, then carried it toward the cairn of five stones balanced at the bend. Equanimity draped the quiet hillside until a sudden gust carrying pepper-sharp dust rattled the topmost stone loudly. Farther upslope, a quiet stone chapel had been built of the same grey rock, its sweet wax smell riding the wind. Kane placed the layer gently, the surfaces meeting like an ironclad agreement, yet the column swayed under added weight. Another burst of sage-scented air struck, and the sixth stone slid off, bouncing into gravel while he stumbled after it. Behind him, Floyd had been tying boot laces, unaware of stones clacking around Kane’s ankles.
Kane retrieved the stray stone, noticing a faint sour mineral smell where its edge had chipped against the path. He waited, nose in the wind, until the dusty breath paused and only sweet warm-granite scent drifted. He planted his feet wider, lifting the stone a shade lower, then slid it in place with slower pressure across the grain. The adjusted angle gripped, though the upper layers still slightly twitched where grey met rusty red. If the wind grew much stronger after noon, the narrow column would lean again toward the downhill edge. Unexpectedly, a pebble released by the gust rolled downhill, tapped the base, and a dry sage perfume puffed upward. Kane stepped back, ready to catch a collapse, yet the tower held, rocking like a slow drum. A loose sage leaf spiralled from the hedge and slipped between two stones, leaving a bright, herby scent dancing above the stack.
