Resin Drop in the Smoke-

English 原文
The cedar bundles near the entrance stood in neat rows, but one loose ribbon fluttered against them each time the door opened. Dina stepped around a brass umbrella stand, feeling the breeze brush her calves, and headed toward the mid-aisle display. Her relative, Vaughn, compared gift boxes near the doorway while she searched for a lavender-jasmine mix promised to her homeroom teacher. The sticks had been arranged by colour rather than region, so Dina lifted two slim boxes with nearly identical lilac stripes. Another shopper blocked the shelf, shifting packets back and forth; Dina’s elbow tightened as she balanced on her toes, yet the boxes slipped from their original order and she lost track of which was which.
She waited until the customer drifted away and carried both boxes to the sample-burning tray behind the wrapping counter. A shallow ceramic vessel shaped like a tidepool cradled the sand bed; one glowing stick already smoked there, its scent fading. Dina leaned forward, shoulders rounding, and caught only a faint sweetness—the layered air had started to blur everything. She let her arms hang loose, counting four slow breaths to clear her nose, then lifted the fresh sample stick. Just as she set it into the sand, a newcomer nudged the door wider; the draft rolled across the shop and bent the smoke sideways, stealing the first clear hint before she could judge.
The door stilled, but a grain of amber resin slipped from the stone mortar above and landed on the lit tip. Heat began to transform the powder; a deeper, woodier note rose and curled into Dina’s face. She noticed her wrists tilting the second box slightly closer for comparison, and a small ache grew where the weight pressed into her palms. The unexpected resin drop revealed that only one bundle carried a matching warmth, making choice possible. Dina pressed her thumb against that packet while Vaughn picked up the other, amused by the coincidence. Outside, Dina held the pale lilac packet against her sleeve while Vaughn tapped the darker one against his coat pocket, the shop’s faint smoke trailing past both gifts in opposite directions.
