Mud Trace, Rising Stone-

English 原文
Fresh footprints speckled the damp soil beside the long branch, proving Hana had reached the stone site first. Grey crouched and traced one print with a fingertip, the mud still glossy under golden morning light. He wedged the branch’s thin end beneath the round stone, using a flat rock as fulcrum. When he leaned his weight, the rock kicked sideways, the branch sprang back, and soil puffed into the air. The stone barely tilted before dropping with a dull thud, its heavier side claiming victory over the lever. Grey exhaled through his teeth, brushing bark crumbs from his sleeve while dew shimmered around the bruised flower stems.
Grey drifted away across the gravel toward the path edge, where flat rocks waited beside a weathered plank. A shallow trench had been sketched with twine and was being measured by Fraser, who crouched nearby with a tape. Grey offered the tape’s loose end, then noticed a faded rubber ball half-hidden under the hedge. Still streaked with playground dust, the ball rolled loose after a kick and nudged a watering can. He darted in a short sprint, grabbed the ball, and lobbed it over the fence for the neighbor’s dog. A lucid patch of sunlight glimmered on the ochre rocks while warm mulch air rose like baked bread. Grey picked the broadest rock, clearing grit from its surface with his sleeve before carrying it under one arm.
When Grey returned along the fence, the long branch lay exactly where he had left it, mud still gleaming. The single heel print at its center now looked more like a marker than an accident. He slid the new rock beneath that mark, stepped squarely on the indicated spot, and pressed with slow, even weight. The branch flexed, then lifted the stone higher than before; gravel ticked inside the forming gap. For a moment the lever triumphed over the hidden weight, holding the stone tilted like a heavy lid. Grey was reaching for the wooden plank to wedge beneath the hovering stone.

Grey
Grey
