Lines Held by an Unexpected Weight-

English 原文
Five neat rows had already formed along Tobias’s unfinished bracelet when a sharper gust disturbed the tiny loom on the bench armrest. The optimistic yellow working strand fluttered upward, lifted the taped bundle, and brushed the bead cup. The cup, a low rectangular box left half open for easy reach, tipped forward; glass beads rattled out like cereal across metal. One bead struck Opal’s step-counting gadget, parked beside her pattern card, and the smooth device slid across the warm stripe of sun toward the threads. Tobias pinched the braid, yet the gadget’s weight dragged the fan sideways, twisting the newest knots. A moment of suspense stretched while both children watched the slow slip stop at the very edge.
Tobias had already tried to scoop the runaway beads, but every twitch loosened more tape. The metal bench slat offered no grip, and the humid air held the tape just damp enough to fail. Spare skeins, jolted by the bead cup, rolled under the seat and nudged the supply bag so it leaned outward. If the gadget had been lighter, it might have bounced onto the gravel, yet its solid mass now gave him an idea. He lifted it, shook the last bead from its smooth back, and settled it directly on the lifted tape strip. The same weight that had skewed the pattern pressed the adhesive flat again, locking all six threads in a straight line. Tobias guided a fresh forward knot; each colour fell back into place, and the bracelet continued growing.
Hours later, long after both children had carried their work home, sunlit dust edged the bench slats. The rectangular gadget lay exactly where it had been repurposed, holding a neat fan of threads that traced amber shadows on the metal. A single glass bead, caught between two paving stones below, kept rocking whenever the breeze slipped through the grass.
